WHAT IS CARE?

Now in its 19th year, Celebrate the Art of Recovery Expo (CARE), is an annual event of community outreach celebrating national recovery month. Each September, prevention, treatment, and recovery programs and services gather to provide resources to families, friends, and community members in an effort to educate and inform about recovery, how it works, for whom, and why. Many lives have been transformed through recovery, and many continue to struggle, therefore knowing where to turn for help is crucial.

We all have a hand in recovery. For ourselves, our families, and our community.

CARE is dedicated to providing the message that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people of any age recover.

Darren Waller Foundation

Darren Waller is a unique and multi-talented individual who is difficult to put into a box. Mostly known for his 8-year career in the NFL, Darren is also an artist, producer, speaker, and advocate for the mental health and addiction communities. He has become a pillar of inspiration to people worldwide because of his transformation from rock bottom to one of the top athletes in the world, while also pursuing sobriety, spiritual growth and inner healing along the way. Darren recently retired from football and is focused on widening the impact of his voice and creating a bigger footprint with the Darren Waller Foundation. His purpose in life is to share his experience, strength, and hope so that those who look to substances, success, or external validation for refuge may learn to find serenity through loving and embracing every part of themselves.

Dr. Sam Zand

Psychiatrist/Professor of Holistic Psychiatry
Founder – Anywhere Clinic

Dr. Sam Zand is a practicing psychiatrist and a leader in mental health. He has trained over 100 clinicians in holistic psychiatry and psychedelic therapy, teaching at multiple residencies and medical schools. As an expert in addiction medicine, Dr. Zand has served as the medical director for several recovery and residential treatment centers. He operates Metamorphosis Resort, an immersive jungle retreat center in Puerto Rico. As the founder of Anywhere Clinic, Calm Clinic, and Better U, Dr. Zand leverages his Johns Hopkins training in public health, entrepreneurship, and management to deliver compassionate, insurance-covered mental health services across more than 20 states. His mission is to evolve the standard of mental health care and ensure that everyone has a supportive partner in their life journey.

Vanessa Ayala

On March 17th, 2024, her life was irrevocably altered when she lost her middle son, Noah Giovanni at the young age of 17. Noah passed away by ingesting a synthetic opioid.

Today, Vanessa and her family have made it their mission to educate and help prevent other families from experiencing the pain of losing a child, sibling or friend.

Interactive workshops

Reiki Restorative Yoga & Sound for Mental Wellness

A unique blend of mindful movement, intentional meditation, breath work, sound and reiki. This practice is aimed at creating a supportive respite for the nervous system. No yoga or reiki experience is required.
